All-inclusive under $1,500? Here's exactly how.

I get asked this more than anything else: "Can I really do a full week, flights included, for under $1,500 a person?" Yes — if you know the rules. Here are the first three. The other seven are free, in exchange for your email.

1Go when everyone else isn't

September through early November and late April through May are shoulder season in the Caribbean. Same beach, same buffet, 30–40% cheaper than Christmas or spring break. The only catch: it's hurricane season, so travel insurance isn't optional — more on that in rule 7.

2Fly Tuesday or Wednesday

Weekend departures are priced for people who don't check. Midweek flights to Cancun and Punta Cana routinely run $100–200 less per person. On a $1,500 budget, that's the difference between making it and not.

3Book the package, not the pieces

Flight + hotel booked separately almost always costs more than the bundled package price. Expedia and Booking.com package rates include charter-style flight pricing you can't get on your own. Always price the bundle first.

Rules 4–10 cover the 4-star trick, the destinations that stretch your dollar furthest, the booking window that matters, and the fine-print traps that blow up budgets. Drop your email and the full cheat sheet unlocks instantly.

4Book 4 stars, not 5

Here's the honest truth: a good 4-star all-inclusive gives you about 90% of the 5-star experience at 60% of the price. The beach is the same ocean. The buffet is 85% as good. The room is where you sleep. Stars are the fastest way to blow a $1,500 budget.

5Look one town over

Everyone searches "Cancun." Almost nobody searches Puerto Morelos, 20 minutes south — same coastline, lower prices. Same logic: Bavaro instead of Punta Cana proper, Runaway Bay instead of Montego Bay. Fame costs money; proximity doesn't.

6Book 6–8 weeks out

For the Caribbean, the sweet spot is six to eight weeks before you fly. Book a year out and you pay the "planner's premium." Book last-minute and you get leftovers. Set a price alert now, pull the trigger at 6–8 weeks.

7Insure it — especially Sept–Nov

Pharmacist's rule, non-negotiable: if you're traveling in hurricane season, get travel insurance with cancel-for-any-reason or at least hurricane coverage. It's usually 4–7% of the trip cost. One rebooked flight pays for a decade of policies.

8Read the cancellation policy before you pay

I've watched too many people lose deposits to policies they never read. Screenshot the cancellation terms at booking. Know the deadline. The cheapest rate is often non-refundable — decide if the savings are worth the risk.

9Check what's actually "included"

Airport transfers, resort fees, premium restaurants, top-shelf liquor — "all-inclusive" doesn't always include all of it. A $1,200 package with $200 in resort fees and $100 in transfers is a $1,500 package. Do the real math before you compare.

10Start with live prices, not dreams

Prices move daily. Use the checklist above, then check live package prices for your actual dates before you fall in love with a resort. Start here:
